Crocheting for Mindfulness?

Mindfulness seems to be the 'in' thing at the moment. Whether it's colouring, yoga and meditation, creative pursuits, or whatever the latest article suggests. For me, it is crochet. Mindfulness not so much, I prefer to think of it as mindlessness. I crochet for peace, a blank mind and an end to an overworked mind and negative thoughts.

I enjoy the gentle process of crochet, you are creating something on your own with little input from others. While you work through tough times in your life; whether it is battles of the mind, or more physical problems like financial difficulty or unresolved relationship issues (with your spouse or your children) you are creating something out of a piece of yarn!  It may not be perfect but it has more resemblance and meaning than perhaps the finished product does to onlookers.

It is an unspoken truth of "look what you created during this time in your life, you can get through this".

Crochet can brighten someone's day, from a Yarnified LoveBomb (nallieradloff.com) to making gifts for those you know. It is a form of creating that connects people worldwide from all walks of life. Whether is it a memory blanket or a pretty mandala you are creating something with your own two hands. Be proud of yourself for that!

No matter if you complete the project in one sitting,  or like me, have far too many on the go at once, being creative doesnt have to have a purpose or even a finished item. It's a process of commiting to learning something that can ease the stresses and strains of everyday life. If you are still learning, don't give up! we are each individual so don't compare yourself (and your work) to others as we all work at our own pace and have our own skill set. If you stumble pick yourself back up, social networks (particularly instagram) are a wonderful place full of like-minded people who I have found are always happy to help, and also offer a wealth of skills and inspiration to the novice crafter. We are all on this journey together...so let's make it a colourful one!!!

Much love,

Here are a few things I have been making recently, they're just some decorative things for around the house. I might think about putting lavender in them in the future but I think it would be a shame to have them hidden away in a drawer or wardrobe!
